Strengthening USA-Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation, BPJPH Signs LoI with Halal Institutions in America

Washington DC — Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with two foreign halal institutions (in Indonesia known as 'LHLN') from the United States, namely ISA Inc Dba Islamic Services of America, and the USA Halal Chamber of Commerce Inc Dba ISWA Halal Certification Department.

The signing of the LoI was carried out at the Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in the United States in Washington DC, witnessed by the Charge d'affaires of the Indonesian Embassy Sade Bimantara, the agricultural attaché, the trade attaché, and other Indonesian Embassy staff. This LoI reflects a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of transparent, accountable, and trustworthy halal product assurance.

"Strengthening this cooperation is a very strategic step in answering the needs of the Indonesian people for quality halal products, while strengthening Indonesia's position in global economic cooperation based on high added value, such as halal products," said Ahmad Haikal Hasan, after signing the LoI in Washington DC, US, on May 20, 2025.

The LoI document entitled "Robust Commitment in Implementation of Halal Quality Assurance" aims to strengthen the framework of cooperation between BPJPH RI and halal institutions in the United States. This understanding emerged along with the increasing demand of the Indonesian market for high-quality halal products -- especially meat products and other consumer goods -- and the capacity of the United States to meet this demand according to Indonesia's halal product assurance standards (SJPH).

Signing the LoI, the parties agreed to do a number of things. First, to facilitate the export of halal-certified products from the United States to Indonesia, especially meat products and other products that are needed. Second, to ensure that all products exported to Indonesia comply with Indonesian halal standards (SJPH). Third, to support Indonesia's food security through diversification of global import sources. Fourth, to increasing bilateral economic growth between Indonesia and the United States. And fifth, to build a transparent, accountable, and credible halal certification system.
