Ensuring the Consistency of Halal Products, BPJPH: Halal Supervisors Have to be Credible

Jakarta (BPJPH) --- The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) Muhammad Aqil Irham reminded halal supervisors that they have to have credibility in carrying out their duties in order to consistently maintain the halal quality of products.

"A halal supervisor has to have credibility and strong intention to carry out his duties. This is important to ensure that the halal product process is maintained in the company where you are assigned," said Aqil, when opening the SKKNI-based Halal Supervisor Training held by the Halal Institute at the BPJPH Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (12/9/2023).

Based on Government Regulation no. 39 of 2021, a halal supervisor is an internal person from the company who is fully responsible for the halal product process. This regulation also requires every company to have a halal supervisor assigned to ensure that the halal product process runs in the company.

“The halal supervisor acts as an internal halal auditor in the company. They are responsible for ensuring that all materials and processes carried out meet the criteria for halal product guarantees. Therefore, he must be credible and responsible.” Aqil continued.

Apart from being credible, he continued, halal supervisors must also have sufficient competence and insight, and understand the sharia related to the halal product process in a company. By having a halal supervisor who has competence and credibility in the company, it is hoped that the quality of halal products will be consistently maintained from time to time.

In fact, Aqil continued, halal supervisors do not only ensure that the halal product process runs in the company. A halal supervisor must also coordinate the halal product process with a halal auditor assigned by the Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) to carry out inspection and/or testing of product halalness. A halal supervisor also has a role as a determinant of corrective and preventive action if an error occurs in the production process.

Aqil also said that currently the presence of halal supervisors is really needed. This is because the halal certification obligation will immediately come into effect starting in October 2024.

"For this reason, I ask all participants to attend all training sessions as well as possible, so that they pass, be competent and, most importantly, be responsible." Aqil confirmed.

The 50th batch of SKKNI-based Halal Supervisor Training was attended by 33 participants. They come from various business fields. Such as the food and beverage product industries, restaurants, cosmetics, medicines, consumer goods, slaughterhouses (RPH), and transporters/cargo. []
